Stupid jealousy.
I’ve seen this all over the place, and quite frankly I’m tired of it.
Granted, most of this is justified. We’ve all met one or two or too many of them. Those people who call themselves Christian, but then we see no difference in their lives from people who don’t call themselves Christian. Those people who are either unaware or don’t particularly care that they’re probably misguiding people. Every denomination has this problem—the thinking that if we do some religious actions and use our “grace card” that it’s all chill with God and we can be or act however we want. Or the thinking that we should get on our (nonexistent) moral pedestals and condemn everyone for sinning while not trying to make our own lives better because we’re (presumably) better than everyone already.
This is being called out and rightfully so—the New Testament in particular has some rough words to say. Jesus calling out the Pharisees, Romans 7, the whole of Galatians, James 2:12-15, Revelation 3:16…I could go on.
But there is also danger in this being spewed out all the time. The look at this, Christians are so hypocritical. We don’t attract people to church because there are so many hypocrites. The world is justified in not being saved because there are so many hypocritical Christians out there that the Christians who aren’t being hypocritical are simply powerless to be used by God to save them.
Hold on a minute there.
Since when has God been powerless to use a remnant? He used Gideon and his 300 men to send 135,000 Midianites away. He used Jonathan and his armor-bearer to confuse and defeat a whole lot of Philistines (1 Samuel 14). He used Elijah—one faithful dude—to send down some holy fire and shock 450 prophets of Baal. These were humans, flawed humans, who did one thing right: they focused on God and what He could do for them. And quite a few victories were won through these few faithful dudes.
God isn’t any different than He was then. As long as there are people who will go, He will send them, and He will do mighty works through them. Just because some people won’t live for Him doesn’t mean that others won’t glorify Him. I have one request—that we would get more wrapped up in Christ than what others—other “Christians”, in particular—are doing. If we all end up doing that, I think a lot of things are going to fall into place (Matthew 6:33).
So yes, I support calling hypocrisy out. But I hope that more Christians will spend more time being the change they want to see as well (to cite a somewhat overused but good quote).
One person on Tumblr, I think, put it well, “I think if we spent less time defending ourselves as Christians and more time being Christian, then we would see the world change in no time.”
I’m no seminarian, far from it actually. But I hope this helps someone.
The answer for the economy: Jesus
The answer for poverty: Jesus
The answer for the debt: Jesus
The answer for job loss: Jesus
The answer for health care: Jesus
The answer for taxes: Jesus
The answer for national security: Jesus
The answer isn’t a GOP or Democratic candidate promising this and that. The answer is a candidate who will seek Jesus in ever decsion he/she makes.
The answer is Jesus.
AMEN
THANK YOU.

Like the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, except with nerds?
Because if there isn’t, I would totally be down with making one.
Or maybe I’ve already found it here. I’ve found a few Christian nerdy people. :)
I want to make a Christian nerd camp…
(Sorry, I’m so random…but I would love some replies!)
